About

Hello!  I'm Terrence Burke, the "Puppet Man" behind Wump Mucket Puppets.  I first became interested in puppetry while growing up in the Boston area in the 1960s.   My imagination was sparked by the puppets that I watched on the television programs Mister Rogers' NeighborhoodSesame Street, and Captain Kangaroo My parents encouraged this interest and enrolled me in a puppetry class at the YMCA, where I created my very first puppet show, "Snowy Baby and the Seven Hippies".

Since 2001, I have performed my original stories, songs, and silliness for thousands of children at libraries, schools, museums, and festivals throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and New England.  Puppetry enables me to combine my interests in music and theatre to create shows that share joy with children and families.

Over the years, the Wump Mucket Puppets have made numerous special guest appearances on television.

We have even been featured on PBS!

I have also been the subject of two student documentaries directed by Wright State University film students:

A Show of Hands (2016), directed by Sean Mangan, focuses on how puppetry helped me through the grief of my father's sudden death.

Wump Mucket Puppets (2025), directed by Viera Fisher, tells the story of how I became interested in puppetry and how I create my puppet characters.

I appreciate your interest in my puppetry.  Please get in touch with me if you have any questions.
